Unit : 11 Lesson : writing

I. Aims :

- By the end of the lesson, the students are able to write a report on preparation for an event.

II. Lexical items :

- range - surprisingly

- in good/ bad condition - on the whole

III. Structures :

- In order to prepare this report, I visited a number of venues, and attended quite a lot of games.

- I would recommend that organizing committee set up additional ticket boxes at .

Games: Bingo
- Ask SS if they have ever watched a sporting event first-hand or on television.
- Get SS to write down 4 words (each word is verb, a noun, an adjective and an adverb) related to the organization of such event.
- read out these words.
- get Ss to listen and cross out each word they hear and at the same time call out “ bingo”
- continue until all the words are read out.
- the first five students to cross out all the four words will be awarded gifts.
- ask Ss what they would do if they were to host a sporting event.
- tell SS that the words they have heard are some that can be used to give an account of a sporting event.
- ask if any student can give the word which means a written or spoken account of an event.
Have you ever written a report? When? What for?
Transition: In today’s lesson, we’ve going to learn more about how to write a report.

Hotels, high, surprisingly, tourists, stadiums, audience, busy, big, prices, tickets, shout, enter, fight, welcoming, spectators, attend, lines, venues, crowed, whisper, and clap;

Activity 1: Teaching new words:
- elicit and explain the meanings of the following words
- read the words one by one and ask SS to repeat.
Activity2:rearranging ( task a, p.158)
- put SS into pairs
- Ask SS to read the paragraphs and rearrange them to make a good report.
- assign two SS to write the sequence of the report on the board.
- go over the answers with the whole class.
- draw SS’ attention to the tenses used in the report.

Activity 1: how to write a report 
1. providing some guidelines
- go through the guidelines in the textbook and give explanations one by one to the class by referring back the corresponding paragraphs of the report.
- Make sure SS understand these guidelines.
2. Providing useful expressions
- introduction: 
- reporting impressions and findings
Activity 2: Making sentences
- ask SS to practice writing each sentence as guided in the structure models.
- call on some students to go to bb to write down their writing
- T corrects them 
Guidelines:
- give your report clear, factual heading
- divide the report into paragraphs or sections to deal with separate aspects of the subject.
- start by saying what the report is about and / or how you gather the information.
- end with a conclusion which gives a summary of the situation ( and a recommendation if necessary)
