I. OBJECTIVES:

Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

 - Grasp the main grammar points: Reflexive pronouns, Modals, Clauses of reason.

 - Give advice and practice asking & answering about reason.

III. PROCEDURES:

1. Warm – Up: (5)

- Call a student to describe Hoas room/kitchen.

- Call two students to write a description of their room in the house.

2. Exercises: (35)

a/ Exercise 1: Complete the dialogue, using must or have to

- Let students to review the verbs in the box.

- Have students look at the pictures to talk about the chores Lan must/has to do.

a. tidy the bedroom

 b. sweep the kitchen

 c. empty the garbage

 d. dust the living room

 e. clean the fish tank

 f. feed the dog

- Ask students to read the dialogue silently to complete it.

- Ask students to cross-check the answers.

- Call some pairs to role play the dialogue.

b/ Exercise 2: Give advice, using ought to

- Set the scene:

 Hoa is very sad because she failed her English test. What do you say to advice her?

- Remind students of the other equivalent modal “should”

- Give the form: OUGHT TO + V_ INF

 Explain the use: “ought to” and “should” is used to give advice to someone.

- Ask students to give advice to people in the pictures, using you ought to .

- Have students role play.

- Correct mistakes if necessary.

c/ Exercise 3: Complete the dialogue, using Reflexive pronouns

- Set the scene: “You do your homework and no one helps you. What do you say?”

- Remind students of the reflexive pronouns:

 Explain the use: “used to emphasize a thing or a person”

 Eg: She cut herself.

 Tom saw himself in the mirror.

- Ask students to read the open-dialogues.

- Have students complete the dialogues with the given reflexive pronouns in the box.

- Call students to give feedback.

- Correct mistakes if necessary.

d/ Exercise 4: Why _ Because

- Set the scene “Its 7.30 a.m. Hoa went to class late. Why did she go to class late this morning?

- Explain the grammar note:

 “Why” is used to ask about reason. The answer must begin with “Because”

- Let students look at the pictures to make questions and answers in pairs.

- Call some students to practice before the class.

- Correct mistakes if necessary.

b. Why did Nam have to cook dinner?

 Because his mother was home late

 c. Why was Mrs. Vui (Nams Mom) home late?

 Because she had to come to visit his (Nams) grandmother, she was sick/ tired.

 d. Why did Ha fail her English exam?

 Because she didnt learn for her exam. She played the computer games.

 e. Why didnt Nga go to the movies?

 Because she had to do her chores. She had to clean the kitchen and sweep the living-room.

3. Consolidation: (3)

- Ask students to review structure.

4. Homework: (2)

- Redo the langue-focus exercises in the book.

- Do the exercises 5 , 6 / p.24 , 25 (workbook)

- Prepare next lesson: Review

- Describe Hoas room/kitchen.
