Warm-up & lead-in (3’) Games: which game? – word search - Divide the class into two groups - T shows Ss pictures of a football game, a game show, an athletics or swimming event (one by one) and ask them to name the activities or programs. - with one correct answer, the group scores one point. - T ask Ss: “ what is the word that can be used to describe the common feature of these activities? - T tells Ss that it is the topic of the next unit - T tells SS to open their books to page 64 and ask them to find words in the word square. They are all related to competition. - one correct word earn the group one point. The group that has more points will win the game. - T has Ss start the game - declare the winner Transition: Today’s reading is about a kind of competition, The Beauty Contest. What is like? Activity 2: True –False statements ( task b) - Ask Ss to read the text and the statements about beauty contests and say if they are true or false - Ask Ss to work with a partner and compare answers. - Call on Ss to read the statements and say their choice.
