I. OBJECTIVES:

 Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

 - Practice in making suggestions and using “mind” to make requests.

 - Make and respond to formal requests using “mind” and make suggestions.

II. PREPARATIONS: Book, cassette tape

III. PROCEDURES:

Teachers activities Students activities

1. Warm – Up: (5)

- Ask students to write as many imperatives as possible.

Possible answers:

 + open the door.

 + close the book.

 + stand up.

 + come in

2. Pre – Speaking: (8)

- Give example:

1. Hoa: Would you mind sitting in the front seat of the taxi?

 Mr. Jones: No problem.

2. Tim: Would you mind if I took a photo?

 Hoa: Not at all.

- Remind again the structure to express polite request.

1. Would / Do you mind + V-ING ?

2. Would you mind if I + Verb (Past) ?

3. Do you mind if I + Verb (Present) ?

+ Use: To make and respond to formal requests.

 Agreement:

 No, I dont mind.

 No, of course not.

 Not at all.

 Please do.

 Please go ahead.

 Disagreement:

 Im sorry, I cant.

 Im sorry, that is not possible.

 Id prefer you didnt

 Id rather you didnt.

- Ask students to make formal requests and responses with phrases in the warm up activities.

 + open the door (agreement)

 + close the book (disagreement)

3. While – Speaking: (15)

- Have students read carefully the two tables on the pages 100-101.

- Ask students to practice in group / pairs.

Model:

A: Excuse me!

B: Yes?

A: Id like to visit a market. Would you mind suggesting one?

B: Not at all. How about going to Thai Binh Market? It opens from about 5 am to 8 pm.

A. Thats sounds interesting. Thank you.

B: Youre welcome.

- Have students open their books and use the information to practice other dialogues.

 Group1: Markets

 Group2: Museums

 Group3: Restaurants.

- Monitor and correct.

4. Post – Speaking: (15)

- Ask students to have role play to make formal request:

+ open the window

+ turn on TV

+ borrow dictionary

- Call some pairs to practice.

5. Homework: (2)

- Practice making and responding to formal requests and make suggestions with other things.

- Prepare next lesson: Unit 11 – Listen/ p.102

- Team works.

- Listen.

- Listen and write.

- Pair works.

- Whole class.
