UNIT 2: MAKING ARRANGEMENTS
LESSON 1: GETTING STARTED & LISTEN AND READ
I. OBJECTIVES:
Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to talk about intentions, use the telephone to make and confirm arrangements, take a telephone message.
II. . PREPARATIONS: Book, cassette tape, pictures
III. PROCEDURES:

1. Warm – Up: (5’)
- Ask students to describe one of their friends.
- Ask students to look at the pictures in the book and to identify them.
- Point to the pictures and answer the questions. 
 What is this?
 When do you use them?
2. Presentation: (10’)
- Ask students to work in pairs to match the words in the box and the pictures.
- Have students to look at the pictures and introduce the characters in the dialogue.
 This is Nga. She is telephoning her friend, Hoa. She is asking Hoa to go to the movies at Sao Mai Theater.
- Ask questions. 
 a. What would you say when you pick up the phone to answer it?
 b. What would you say if you are a caller?
 c. What would you say to invite your friend to go out for a movie/a walk/  ?
- Play the tape for students. 
- Explain and emphasize some structures in making the call: 
 Can speak to  , please? , Hold on, where is it on? , I know where it is , Is 6.30 all right?
- Ask students to notice the present continuous tense to express the future action.
 I’m using my cousin’s bike tonight (future action)
3. Practice: (15’)
- Have students practice the dialogue.
- Call some pairs of students to practice the dialogue in front of the class.
- Ask students to look at the dialogue silently.
- Ask students to answer the questions. 
 a. Nga made the call.
 b. Nga introduced herself.
 c. Nga invited Hoa to go to the movies.
 d. Nga arranged a meeting place.
 e. Hoa arranged the time.
 f. Nga agreed the time.
4. Production: (13’)
- Have students write sentences with cues.
 Write sentences with cues, using present continuous to refer future action.

 e. What / they / do / this weekend?
- Have students notice the process of making arrangements.

- Learn by heart vocabulary, do exercise 1/p.13 (workbook)
- Prepare next lesson: Unit 2-Speak and Listen/ p.20, 21. 
- Describe one of the classmates.
