By the end of the lesson, the students are able to understand and use reported speech with verbs of to-bare form and gerunds. Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. warm-up (7’) Game: Word search - Give each student a copy of the word search -Put SS in to groups of six. -Set a time limit of 6 minutes. -Ask groups to find out 16 more adjectives in the word search. -Get groups to hand in their word search. -The first group(s) to find out all the adjectives wins. -Get the winner to write the adjectives up on the board. -Go over the adjectives with the whole class. Transition: Today we’re going to learn more about the adjectives ending with –al, -ous, -ful and other grammar points. -Write down on the board: Word cards: 1.shoe shop 2.Milk chocolate 3.Book case 4.chocolate milk 5.tennis ball 6.history book 7.Gues house 8.Milkman 9.Paperbag 10.Street lights Unit 4: Language Focus – Grammar. -Pictures - chalk and board 2. Adjectives derived from nouns -Put these categoies on the board -FUL,-AL, -OUS, - ABLE -Have SS put the adjectives into the correct column. -Call on SS to give the corresponding nouns -Go over the answers with the whole class. -Have SS repeat the nouns and then adjectives after teacher -Call on SS to say the words. - Make corrections if needed -Elicit the form of these adjectives: Activity 1 : Forming adjectives - Give each student a copy of the task below -Give the adjectives of the words below using suffixes –al, -ous, -ful, -able as appropriate - Have SS give the adjectives using suffixes –al, -ous, -ful, -able as appropriate - Call on SS to speak out the adjectives first, write them on the board -Go over the answers with the whole class. -Assign SS to speak out answers -Invite class opinions and give feedback. Activity 2: Match-up (task b,p.42) - Give each student a copy of the task below -Put SS into pairs and ask SS to do the task - Call on SS to give the answers -Go over the answers with the hole class. Activity 1: Choosing the correct verb form(task b , p.43) -Have SS to task b( textbook , p43) -Call on SS to speak out the answers and then write them up on the board. -Elicit class opinions and give feedback -Get SS to look at the sentences in column A and tell SS that these are sentences in reported speech. -Have SS classify these sentences as reported speech with to- infinitive and gerunds -Elicit some more reporting verbs of these kinds Activity 2: Transformations - Give each student a copy of the task below -Ask SS to put the exchange(S) into reported using the prompts given -Call on SS to write the answers on the board .
