Teaching aids: - textbook - CD player - Sheet of paper - chalk an board - cards - Handouts Techniques : - skill-based ( listening, speaking) Procedures : State/time Teacher’s and students’ activities Blackboard Materials 1. warm-up (7’) Games: ‘What’s he like?’ - Divide the class into tow groups A and B. -Show SS a picture of a person and ask them who he is. ( Appendix ) ( expected : Yuri Gagarin) -Tell the groups to write down as many sentences as possible about Yuri Gagarin – who he was, what he was like. - The group with more correct sentences about him wins the game. -Set a time limit and let SS start the game. -Read the groups’sentences and check with the class -Declare the winner - Transition:-‘Yuri was an astronaut. What do you think an astronaut must be like? What are some requirements of astronauts?’ The listening today is about how astronauts are selected. - write down on the board : . Pre- listening (7’) Brainstorming (task a, p. 194) - Tell SS to work in small groups. -Ask SS to read the phrases in task a and check the things that are required of astronauts. -Ask SS to add more things that they think are required of astronauts. ( task b, p. 194) - tell SS they are going to listen to a talk about selection in different countries. - Ask SS to listen and complete the table with the information about the countries. -Let SS listen the second time if necessary. - Ask SS to compare answers in pairs. - Go over the answers with the class Activity 2: Gap Questions ( task c, p. 194) -Ask SS to listen again and complete the sentences with the correct information -Ask Ss to work with a partner -Call on SS to read their completed sentences. - have SS listen again and check the answers with the class Textbook and CD player CD player and chalk + bb 4. Homework (1’) Writing. -Arrange SS to work in pairs. -Tell them to write a short paragraph about how astronauts were selected in the USA or Russian -Tell SS to refer to the table for in the information. -Go around to monitor and give help if necessary. -Call on some SS to read their pairs’ writings and ask the class to give correction and comments. -Give feedback and comments on what SS have.
