I. Aims :

- By the end of the lesson, the students are able to scan reading for general and specific information

- By the end of the lesson, the students are able to talk about the Internet and its services.

II. Lexical items :

- link - connect - Internet - hook up

- modem - dial – up - access - ISP

III. Structures :

- People use the Internet for different purposes such as in formation search,

- You can hook up to the ISP with a modem and your home telephone line.

IV. Teaching aids:

- textbook - picture / drawings

- chalk - handouts

V. Techniques :

- Skill – based ( reading), communication approach.

Aims :

1. Warm-up & lead-in

Game : “Mind-map”
- Divide the class into groups of six.
- Allocate space for each group on the board.
- Give each group a set of words / phrases below on separate flashcards with different colors ( all mixed up ) and some glue.
- each group has to pick out the words they think are associated with the Internet.
- set a time limit of 6 minutes
- as the time is up get all the groups to come to their allocated areas on the board and stick the words they have selected on.
- Transition: In today’s reading section, we’ll get to learn more about the Internet and its services.
- write on the board:

Teaching Vocabulary
- write new words on the bb. 
- elicit meanings from Sts or give explanations yourself
- leave some minutes for Sts to copy.
- give some practice on pronunciation ( T reads – Sts repeat in chorally, then asks Sts to read individually.)

Activity 1: Matching headings with paragraphs ( Task a P. 107)
- Get Ss to read through the subheadings in the textbook
- Have Ss skim the text and match the subheadings to the paragraphs.
- after 4 minutes, call on some Ss to speak out the answers.
- Invite class opinions and give feedback.
Activity 2: True (T) , false (F) or not mentioned (NI) 
- Ask Ss to read the text and the statements about beauty contests and say if they are true or false
- Ask Ss to work with a partner and compare answers.
- Call on Ss to read the statements and say their choice.

Discussion:
- Put Ss into groups of 4 or 5.
- Ask them to discuss and share ideas on the following questions:

- go around to monitor and give help if necessary.
- call on to report about their groups’ discussion and share.
- give feedback and comments.

- Ask Sts to learn new words by heart and review the today’s lesson.
